February 17th: Introduction to Myofascial Yoga

7:00 – 9:30 ~ $40*

Fascia is a web-like tissue that runs three-dimensionally throughout the body, surrounding and supporting every cell, nerve, organ, muscle, and bone. When it is restricted, it dehydrates, and not only loses its mobility but can also exert an enormous amount of force on underlying structures, which causes tension and pain. It can also reduce range of motion in joints, cause muscle pain and fatigue, and can even cause bizarre, seemingly unrelated symptoms when the fascia entraps nerves. Additionally, fascia is tightly integrated into the autonomic nervous system, and is particularly effective at contracting throughout the entire body when the nervous system is in fight-or-flight mode.

Topics covered:
~ 3 main Myofascial Release principles
~ Introduction to trauma theory
~ Myofascial Release self-treatment with balls and gentle yoga poses
~ Mindfulness meditation techniques for relaxation and pain reduction

Date TBA: The science of mindfulness

7:00 – 9:30 ~ $40*

In this workshop we will delve into the deeper teachings within the yogic philosophy. We will look at the different states of consciousness, and how they relate to the different functions of the human brain and nervous system. This workshop will be a mix of the theory of brain science and experiential mindfulness practices.

*Attend both workshops for $70
